FONA

 

FONA recruits Friends, raises funds from Friends, local companies and donor agencies and works to inform the public and implement the objectives of the Arboretum Masterplan. The Friends meet annually to elect a committee to run FONA activities.

Since 1993 FONA has been engaged in numerous physical improvements efforts at Arboretum e.g. providing benches, seats picnic tables a Shelter Banda, litter collection, grass cutting etc.

Achievements

Has partnerships to further the implementation of the Masterplan.

Tree Walks held on the last Monday of each month where splendid trees from many parts of Kenya and around the world are studied in details.

Publishes of a newsletter 'Tree News' and tree lists, bird lists and tree walk trails.

Organises of the annual Wind in the Trees event, a day of music in the Arboretum.

Provide facilities such as benches, seats, picnic tables, a shelter banda etc.

Has improved to Arboretum office, staff houses, notice boards, path signs, tree labels, public amenities and litter collection

Providing local and overseas training in garden management for selected Forest Department staff, popular compost making courses for gardeners and tree knowledge for guides.

Contributes to Arboretum maintenance.

Employes an Arboretum Environmental Officer to implements plans.

Participates in BGCI International Conservation congress.

FONA started in 1993 with the objective of assisting the Forest Department (FD) to revitalise the Arboretum.

Ways you can help

Donate a seat, a picnic table or a bench. These are vital to the Arboretum's recreational function, and can be individually labelled.

Secure assistance, support and collaboration for the Arboretum Masterplan objectives within the commercial, public and voluntary bodies.

Donate materials such as tools, office equipment or labels.

Assist with events, meetings and in the committee.

Remember "The more people participate the more we can do for the Arboretum."
